Oh, Work From Home, this is the new normal these days.
As part of social distancing efforts to address COVID-19 health precautions, work from home has become the staple solution of companies worldwide.
As workers start to get used to the this new normal, companies are finding ways to keep employees engaged regardless if they still report onsite or have skeletal staff due to work from home options.
If you are new to work from home, you may want to check the posts below for some guidance:
So now that you are immersed to work from home, how do you kick it up a notch to bring in productivity, focus and discipline so you can succeed in this new way of life?
As a work from home employee in the past 2 years, I could say that I have gotten used to this approach and have tried and tested different ways to keep my productivity up and stay focused on tasks.
Here are some of my essentials for my home office:
Getting a reliable desk that you can put your laptop and other essentials is important. You want a reliable and sturdy one. Here are my recommendations:
I suggest that you also explore getting a standing desk to break the monotony on sitting for hours.
If you’re going to be sitting for hours then give your bum and back some TLC and buy that ergonomic chair. Here are my recommendation.
3. Memory Foam Cushions
This is another life and back saver, y’all! Your posture will improve, and bums won’t hurt (as much).
4. Extension cord
I suggest get the ones that can help minimize power surges and have USB power option. This way you don’t need to have the USB converter for your phone when it’s charging when you’re using it for laptop charging

Bright ceiling lights can be irritating to the eyes. Get one that you can put a yellow led bulb on to make the room more pleasant and not hard on your eyes.
Here are some recommendations:
If you’re like me who can’t work without dual screens, then yes, get a reliable monitor as a secondary screen. It boosts productivity and helps a lot when you have to look at spreadsheets.
I used a 32 inch TV as my secondary monitor and I LOVE it! I had it mounted on the wall and it's perfect!
7. Ring Light
Well, you may not be the next YouTube star, but your co-workers will be seeing more of you in the virtual world so make sure they see that beautiful face.
When I go on video calls, I sometimes notice that some people turn off the light in the room they are in and not only is it weird, but it’s disrespectful. Get a ring light!
I got the one that sits on top of the table and it doubles as my lamp when I’m not using it for video calls.

I cannot tell you how many trial and error I’ve had to do to get the best one! It’s best to invest on this as this will help you on your calls with the client or co-workers.
Get a Bluetooth one that has the mute option. Believe me, with a toddler running around in the background and the oven ringing, the mute button helped me move around the house while still being on the call.
Refrain from using headphones as it tends to pick up noise and will be very distracting when you are on calls. Believe me, I got called out several times.
Get a good headset. It will save you and your job.
9. Desk Organizer
This helps get my desk in order and get pens, post-its, staplers etc within reach. There are many varieties to this so pick one that's sturdy and able to hold a few office supplies.
Okay, this may distract you. But it WILL help when you’re getting frustrated on a call.
How? You will see your face and calm down or be like, “why do I get so upset with this?”.
Either way, the mirror helps. Get a good one, thank you.
11. Water Bottle
Yes you are 5 steps to the kitchen to get water but still, if you are in the middle of the call and need a little refreshment, then you don’t want to be running to the kitchen just to get a glass of water.
I suggest get the one that has 1 L capability, so you fill it up once in the morning and consume it for the rest of the day.
These are my essentials picks to help you set up your home office and get you productive soon.
Remember that working from home will require disciple and dedication on your part, these essentials will help you in being productive and delivering work at your best.
